On behalf of City Council and the citizens of Thompson, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the “Hub of the North.”
Thompson is a great place to live, to raise a family, to work, to play and to enjoy a quality of life second to none. This is an exciting time for the City and I encourage you to get involved in our community and catch the northern spirit.
Our City has a lot to offer by way of our facilities such as the Norplex Pool, the C.A. Nesbitt Arena, Gordon Beard Arena, the Millennium Trail, the Spirit Way walkway and the HeritageNorthMuseum.
Ok, so it’s still raining. Good news for our dry forest, lakes and rivers….not so good news for our construction schedule. Even with our best efforts we are behind schedule. In order to get back on track we need to build the following in the next couple of weeks:
Shingle roof
Install rough electrical and plumbing
Pour basement floor concrete
Finish facia, soffit and insulation of front of building
Frame basement walls
Frame and install stairs
Insulation and vapour barrier of main floor
Exterior siding and parging
Build fence
We need your help to get this done. Even if you do not have any experience with construction you can come out and help. We would like to have at least a dozen people for the next couple of weekends to get caught up. Come on out for a day and be a part of the first home build in our community…bring your husband, wife, sister, brother, friend, co-worker or anyone who is over the age of 16. Call Dawn at 677-0762 or email dsands@tnrc.ca to register.
What do you need to bring? Not much…just yourself and a willingness to help out. Steel-toed boots are required. We do have a few pairs on hand, but recommend that you bring your own. Hard hats, gloves and tools will also be provided. Lunch is provided on Saturdays.
Also, applications for the 2011 home are now available. You can contact Dawn at 677-0762 or dsands@tnrc.ca for more information.
