WATERBREAK/LAWN REPAIRS

Please be advised that, for water break repair incidents the Department of Recreation, Parks, and Culture will offer the following option to the resident:

1)

The department will come in and provide the labor to fill, topsoil, seed and fertiilze the damaged area

2) If the resident would like to do their own repair, then we will provide the topsoil, seed and fertilizer.

Due to a policy change, the City will no longer be responsible for the replacement of damages to other items, i.e. sidewalks, trees, flowers, etc.

When the work is completed, it is the resident's responsibility to care for the area by watering, etc. Under the policy, we will make such repairs ONE TIME ONLY FOR EACH WATER BREAK. We will not return, in future years, unless there is another break.

** I would like to make you aware that it is very important that, when an area is seeded water becomes very important to properly establish the area.

Water is essential to the growth of all plants. When seeding an area, as long as the grass is dormant in the seed it needs no water. However, once planted and watered, the seed swells and germinates. At that point, an uninterrupted water supply is very important. Should the seed dry out once planted, it will die. The soil surface must not be allowed to dry until the grass is about two (2") inches tall. Watering several times a day everyday for a month may be necessary! Caution should be taken to keep the new seedlings moist without saturating the soil. Too much moisture can encourage disease development as well as possibly washing the seedaway.

Once you have had a waterbreak please call the Recreation, Parks & Culture office at 677-7952 to advise your name and telephone number where you can be reached during the daytime hours..
