Dennis Fenske Mayor Dennis Fenske

After receiving his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education in 1986 from the University of Saskatchewan, Dennis and his family moved to Moosomin, Saskatchewan as a Recreation Director. In 1988, he was hired by the City of Thompson as a Recreation Programmer for the Department of Recreation, Parks and Culture. In 1990, he was promoted to Director and served in that position until 1999 where he transferred to City Hall as the Director of Community Development and Human Resources. Mayor Fenske left the City of Thompson for VALE where he is currently employed as the Supervisor of Support Services for Central Engineering and Capital Projects Group.

Mayor Fenske was first elected to the City of Thompson Council in October of 2010 and served as the Chairperson of the Public Safety Committee and was also a member of the Finance and Administration Committee for the full term of office. He served two years as Deputy Mayor and chaired the Legislative and Inter-Governmental Affairs Committee in that role.

Mayor Fenske has strongly supported the development of the University College of the North and sees education as a key component for the future of Thompson and the surrounding area.

As Chairperson of the Public Safety Committee he was and continues to be very committed to improving the Safety of the residents of Thompson by working with all partners to deal with the long standing issues of the downtown area. Mayor Fenske and Council were successful in lobbying the Province of Manitoba to introduce legislation creating the Community Safety Officer program with the City of Thompson becoming the pilot project in Manitoba for the program. Mayor Fenske is also very committed on the prevention side of issues relating to Public Safety and strongly supports the establishment of a Main Street North Model and working with existing agencies in supplying support systems for those in need.

Quality of life amenities such as walking paths and the refurbishment of the Norplex Pool will be a priority as well as continuing with Infrastructure renewal and the construction of a new Waste Water Treatment Facility.
