Councillor Duncan Wong
Duncan Wong was born in Kuala Lumpur, a City in the country of Malaysia. Immigrating to Canada, he has lived in Thompson for the past 26 years. Duncan graduated from R.D. Parker Collegiate in 1990, and attended University of Winnipeg for Business Administration immediately afterward. More recently, Duncan is known as a local business owner, managing Wong’s Dynasty Ltd. and Wong’s Asian Bistro with his wife Perrie while his three daughters, Jessy, Jade, Kokia, attend school both home and aboard.
Outside of the restaurant, Duncan maintains a seasonal side-business of snow removal, and is proud to identify himself as an outdoorsman. If you were to search for him outside of work, you’d commonly find Duncan, fishing, golfing and hunting and especially snowmobiling. During the winter season, Duncan is particularly active with the Thompson Trailbreakers Club, and has regularly volunteered for Thompson’s Operation Red Nose.
As of 2014’s Inaugural Meeting of Council, Duncan has been nominated to sit on the Finance and Administration Committee chaired by Kathy Valentino, the Public Works Committee chaired by Ron Matechuk, and the Thompson Board of Revision. He is happy and privileged to be on City Council, and is looking forward to using his experience as a budget manager and hi knowledge of heavy duty equipment to support both committees to the best of his ability. He hopes to be in good starting position for Thompson’s newly elected council as it begins to work together to better serve the residents of the community over the coming term.
