The City of Thompson is dedicated to being a good steward of public funds and resources. We are devoted to attaining value for public funds and, where reasonable, will provide services on a user pay basis. We are committed to being accountable for our actions.
The City is committed to operating in an open and transparent manner. Our processes will be public, consistent with legislation, and respectful of the privacy of individuals.
The City of Thompson provides quarterly financial statements at Council meetings as part of our commitment to operating in an open and transparent manner. When the quarterly reports are presented, they are unaudited. However, it is the information in the quarterly reports that is carried forward and provided to the independent auditor as part of our annual audit process.
Our audit process is dictated by the Municipal Act. Section 190 (1) of the Act and it states:
The auditor must submit a report to the council not later than June 30 in the year following the fiscal year for which the audit is prepared
(a) outlining the scope of the audit;
(b) identifying the financial statements audited; and
(c) expressing an opinion as to whether the municipality's financial statements present fairly the financial position of the municipality as at the end of the fiscal year and the results of its operations for the fiscal year.
Our audited financial statements, complete with the Independent Auditor’s Report, provides the opinion that our financial statements have been presented fairly and in accordance with the Canadian Public Sector Accounting Standards. These have been submitted to the Province of Manitoba - Manitoba Municipal Government.
The past four years of the City’s audited financial statements are available online for review.
