Fire Extinguisher Recall - A message from the Office of the Fire Commissioner
Posted Date: 07/11/2017
MANITOBANS REMINDED TO CHECK FIRE EXTINGUISHERS FOLLOWING RECALL

The Office of the Fire Commissioner (OFC) reminds all Manitobans to check the fire extinguishers in their homes, offices and vehicles following a recall of two specific fire extinguishers manufactured under the Kidde and Garrison brand names.

Working in partnership with the manufacturer and the Council of Canadian Fire Marshals and Fire Commissioners and Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs, the OFC asks all Manitobans to check their fire extinguishers.

The recall affects two styles of fire extinguishers under the brand name Kidde or Garrison as well as push-button Pindicator fire extinguishers made between 1973 and Aug. 15, 2017. The recall is based on incidents where the extinguishers became clogged or required excessive force to activate. There is a risk the unit might fail to discharge or the nozzle could detach with enough force to pose an impact hazard and should be replaced.
