This small northern zoo houses native northern species, domestic farm animals and a wide variety of birds and waterfowl. It provides an educational and recreational experience for children and adults of the city of Thompson and the Norman Region as well as many out of province tourists who visit the city. It is well utilized by a complete cross section of the multi-racial population of the city and is one of the few recreational facilities that a family can visit and enjoy at no cost.
The Thompson Zoo is operated by the Thompson Zoological Society, a non-profit organization registered as a charitable organization. The society was set up with the purpose of operating and maintaining the Thompson Zoo.
