Building a fence does not require a building permit in Thompson. However, they must still comply with local and provincial regulations.

Requirements

Fences must either be constructed within the builder’s property line, or can be built on a shared property line with the consent of both landowners.

Backyard fences and shared side yard fences can be up to 1.8 metres, or 6 feet.

Front yard fences and side yards on corner lots can be up to 1.2 metres, or 4 feet.

Electric fences are not permitted anywhere in Thompson.
